5 activities that cannot be missed

Discover our region through its must-see attractions. Explore Meuse is characterised by its two citadels, two cableways, a renowned abbey, an adventure park, and breath-taking panoramic views spread over 7 valleys.

Our two citadels, a cable car and funicular

Explore Meuse distinguishes itself from other destinations by its two citadels, a cable car and funicular.

The heart of the capital, Namur, is home to a citadel that appears to be one of the largest strongholds in Europe. Its underground passages, also known as the termite mounds of Europe, have been brought to life in recent years by guided tours and digital projections. It’s the ideal place to enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Namur. Since 2021, the cable car can now take you from Place Maurice Servais to the esplanade of the citadel. A novel means of transport that offers every visitor the opportunity to discover this “Grande Dame” (Great Lady). The Citadel of Dinant is one of the not-to-be-missed experiences during your stay. To reach the heart of the Dinant citadel, you can either climb the 408 steps or take Belgium’s oldest funicular (renovated in 2019, just to reassure you). There, 10 centuries of history await you. From the era of the fortified castle to the First World War, step back in time through the fortress corridors. Test your balance in the collapsed air-raid shelter and discover the weapons museum. The highlight of your visit? The breath-taking view of the city.

Maredsous, an exceptional abbey

For some, they’re a childhood memory, for our locals they’re a regular treat, those delicious sandwiches with Maredsous cheese! For others, it is a meeting place, a moment of relaxation, a stop during a bike ride, a walk, or a motorcycle ride. Maredsous Abbey is located in the picturesque Molignée valley. It is one of the most beautiful abbeys in Belgium. In the Saint Joseph Centre, you can taste the traditional abbey specialties such as bread, cheese, beer, and regional products. You will certainly not go home empty-handed. Guided tours of the abbey are also organised here. There is also a souvenir shop with religious and artisanal items and a bookshop in the centre. A playground and ample parking are available.

Dinant Evasion, tailor-made nature

Their playground: an impressive park of 18 hectares and the Lesse. Dinant Evasion is a year-round experience: during the summer, discover Dinant and its surroundings from a cruise or barge. Experience unforgettably fun moments and ride down the Lesse with your friends or family in a canoe or kayak. Are you looking for more thrilling activities? The park is open all year round and offers fun activities such as monkey bridges, death rides, the XL pendulum, rock climbing, paintballing, and many other activities. All the ingredients are there to put together a programme that meets your wants and needs. Dinant Evasion is also the place to be for your professional and group events.
