Cornelis Cort. Un graveur hollandais à la conquête de l'Italie.
This summer, the Provincial Museum of Ancient Arts of Namur invites you to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of a 16th-century engraving virtuoso: Cornelis Cort. Come and (re)discover the works of the man who was celebrated as the greatest engraver of his generation, both north and south of the Alps. Although Cort made his mark on the Antwerp art scene, it was above all in Italy that he produced remarkable work, transposing the creations of the greatest masters of the High Renaissance, including Giulio Romano and the famous Titian, onto copper with unrivalled skill.
Through the emblematic work of Cornelis Cort, the exhibition invites visitors to understand the decisive role played at the time by engraving in the dissemination of images on a European scale, a true iconic revolution, unparalleled until the invention of photography several centuries later.
