Temporary exhibition “Avoir sa peau” at the MPMM
The new exhibition at the Maison du patrimoine médiéval mosan looks at some of the animals that inhabited our region's forests and waterways from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century.
Kept under surveillance, trapped and hunted, many of these animals were hunted for their fur, for the table or for entertainment, an expression of power.
Many were judged to be pests, leading man to decimate “wild” animal populations as his perception of their presence in the environment dictated.
The landscape of living things has thus undergone many upheavals over time.
The coexistence of living beings is still a topical issue, even as our territory sees the return of animals that once disappeared.
Remains of wildlife, written documents, illustrated manuscripts, figurative objects, toponymy and anthroponymy are all avenues to follow in order to meet those whose existence has generally been remote from the human gaze.
